Everything you need to know before stepping out onto Arusha's
streets

Is online payment on this website safe?
100% safe. All transactions are processed through Pesapal v3, East Africa's premier payment gateway licensed directly by the Bank of Tanzania. You can pay instantly with Visa, Mastercard, or local Mobile Money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money). We never see or store your card details, and there are zero recurring subscriptions - just $12 for a Solo Pass (~ยฃ9.50 / 32,000 TZS) or $24 for a 3-person Small Group Pass (~ยฃ19.00 / 64,000 TZS).

What's it like riding a Bajaj, and is it safe?
Bajajs are everyday transport for people in Tanzania. They are three-wheeled, covered on top, open on the sides, and have no seatbelts. Our route is designed for daytime on paved and safe roads, avoiding areas we would not send our own friends. A few easy habits help: ride in daylight, keep bags inside rather than hanging out, and agree the fare before you start (our Swahili cards do this for you). If you prefer a car, you can do the entire route by saloon taxi instead.
๐ฑ
What if my mobile data drops halfway through?
Zero stress. Bajaj Adventure runs as an offline-first Progressive Web App (PWA). Once opened in your mobile browser, the itinerary, offline Swahili driver cards, audio chapters by resident hosts Leon & Emma, and emergency safety contacts remain accessible even if cellular roaming drops out.
๐ก
Can't I just use Google Maps or ask my hotel front desk?
Your lodge or operator can point you to great places, and we encourage you to ask them. What we add is the curated route in logical order, the stories behind each stop, the Swahili cards, the special visitor perks at select stops, and the small workshops and courtyards that do not show up on a standard map pin.
๐ต
What will local transport actually cost me on the ground?
Bajaj rides are very budget-friendly. Short hops between downtown stops cost 2,000 to 5,000 TZS ($1-$2 USD). Hopping between stops across a 4 to 9 hour day averages 25,000 to 50,000 TZS ($10-$20 USD) total. If you prefer a private safari saloon taxi with air conditioning for the entire day, expect around 180,000 to 200,000 TZS (~$75 USD). Our Swahili driver cards display pre-calculated fair fares for each stop so you never overpay.

How do I get to Stop 1 from my safari lodge outside Arusha?
Most safari lodges are located 20 to 45 minutes outside the central city. Simply ask your lodge reception to call a standard taxi to the Clock Tower (~20,000 to 40,000 TZS / $8-$15 USD) or hail a Bolt. Your street safari begins as soon as you arrive at the Clock Tower (Stop 1: Kitamu Coffee).
๐ฅ
How does the $24 Small Group Pass work?
One person purchases the $24 Group Pass. Inside your rider dashboard, you get a 1-click WhatsApp invite link and a 6-character claim code for up to 2 companions. Each companion opens the link on their smartphone, enters their details, and unlocks full 30-day access to all stops, audio stories, and Swahili cards on their own device.
๐ค
Will this interfere with my safari tour company?
Not at all. Bajaj Adventure is built to complement your trip, not replace it. It is designed specifically for free layover hours, early morning arrivals, or recovery days between flights and bush safaris. Feel free to show your lodge concierge or tour operator your route: many lodges are happy to arrange your morning drop-off at the Clock Tower.

Do I have to download an app from the App Store?
No downloads required. Bajaj Adventure opens immediately in your mobile browser (Safari, Chrome). You can tap "Install App" or "Add to Home Screen" to use it just like a native app. All route maps, audio, and Swahili translation cards cache automatically for offline use on the streets.
